A sequence is a list of numbers in which each number is related to the next by a pattern or rule. Each number in the sequence is known as a term. The two types of sequences most commonly encountered in GCSE Maths: arithmetic (or linear) sequences and quadratic sequences. In an arithmetic sequence, the difference between the terms is constant. For a quadratic sequence the difference between terms changes but by the same amount for each term.
